Price: US$10/year (plus standard account fee); US$25 setup fee (domain registration fees not included)
Provides URLs http://www.your.domain/ and ftp://ftp.your.domain/ which point directly to your account. Provides E-mail redirection to your E-mail address for E-mail sent to anyname@your.domain (in other words, for any E-mail address ending in @your.domain. Basic domain service is included as well.
The $25 setup fee covers service for any single domain; you can send it in as soon as you decide you want a full domain, or you can wait until you have determined the domain name you will use and have submitted the domain registration form (see below). If you prefer to submit your domain registration form before paying the setup fee, be aware that we must receive payment of the setup fee within 45 days of the domain, or the domain may be dropped.
In order to serve your files from your own domain, that domain needs to be registered. If you have already registered a domain name yourself and simply wish to use it with your Dragonfire account, you can skip much of this text. Otherwise, read on.
In the case of the common domains .com, .net, and .org, registration is done through the InterNIC agency. Other domains (for example, .ca or .us) are handled through other agencies, and we cannot help with registering such domains at this time--however, the process is usually similar no matter where you go.
Your first task is to find a domain name that is not in use. The easiest way to do that is to use InterNIC's whois utility; simply type the name of a domain you're interested in, such as example.com, and the whois program will show you whether or not that domain is already registered.
Once you have selected a domain name, you need to fill out a form for registration of the domain. Doing so can be complex, so we have provided a web-based form which will take your information and fill it into InterNIC's registration form, then send you the completed form by E-mail which you can forward to us for submission.
After a period of time (recently, this has generally been a few days), InterNIC will respond indicating whether or not your domain registration was processed. Among other reasons, you might not get the domain you requested because someone else had sent in a registration for the same domain before you but not long enough before that the domain appeared in whois. Typically, though, the registration will be successful.
Once your domain has been registered, it can be served through Dragonfire just as with basic domain service. However, the InterNIC, and possibly other domain registries, charge maintenance fees for domains, and you will be billed directly for those fees.
What if I've already registered a domain?
We can serve already-registered domains; however, you will need to take care of updating the nameserver information for your domain (see below for Dragonfire's nameservers). Also, if your domain is under the .com, .net, or .org top-level domains, you should change the domain's Technical Contact to AC673 when sending the modification request to InterNIC. I already have my own nameservice for my domain; can you still serve it?
If you already have nameservice for your domain, then you need not purchase full domain service; you can simply point the hostnames in your domain to your dragonfire.net hostname. However, we cannot presently provide E-mail redirection for a domain which has nameservice elsewhere. (If you don't know what this means, you probably don't have your own nameservice.)
Can I get full domain service for more than one domain?
Sorry, we do not presently allow more than one full domain per user. (If you have the ability to serve domains remotely, this does not prevent you from doing your own nameservice for additional domains. However, we will only directly serve one domain.)
