The spinning world came to a halt as the Exit spell was completed. Cecil collapsed in front of Cyrill and Celes, the Orb clutched in his left hand, Edgar's body in his right. Cyrill was the first to reach them, but not far behind was Celes chanting the words to a Life 2 spell. It failed. So did Cecil's attempt at the spell, and his attempts at Life 1, Cure 4, Cure 3, Revivify, Reverse Time, anything he could think of. He did succeed in one aspect: repairing the body. All the magic he had sent coursing through it had revitalized it, but there was no soul to animate it. Edgar must have finally been at peace, his final battle and life's destiny done at last. Cecil admired him, being able to sacrifice his life for that of others. In the minds of others, it may not have made up for the thousands Edgar had slaughtered, but Cecil knew that Edgar had atoned. Celes could not understand it all, and though she would contemplate it for weeks to follow, the closest she came to understanding was a speech to the public of Figaro that she herself did not fully comprehend. Cecil would never give up on Edgar, though. Trying some spell that a Paladin should know nothing of, Cecil used the Orb and the knowledge passed on to him from Cerebratan to place Edgar's body in a state of eternal suspended animation. He would go on to place Edgar's body in an indestructible magical glass casket as a monument to the one person he could perhaps relate the greatest to. At the foot of the casket, engraved in glowing runes, read the following: Edgar Figaro, whose soul was filled so with good, Who fought and defeated, But at the great cost of his own life, The Evil Takar, So that millions would be free. Few heroes could live up to the deed he performed, Especially after the pain he suffered through, And atone for their wrongs, Humbly and unselfishly. May his name live on honorably, Always, And may his Legend never die. Cecil, King of Baron. Cecil had the shrine built deep in the Virgin Woods south of South Figaro, near all that was good and beautiful, as befit a King. As the years went by, as long as Cecil lived, he vowed to visit the shrine annually on the anniversary of Edgar's death, and cast a Life 2 spell, just in case Edgar felt he would like to return to this world. He went whenever he could during the first few weeks after his death.
