Chapter 1: On My Way -------------------- He sat at a bar in the Dragon's Neck Coliseum. His stare was cold and devoid of emotion. His eyes narrowed as he did a quick sweep of the bar. Just the normal ruffians, thieves and bounty-hunters. The barkeeper was an unusual man. He actually enjoyed serving these lowlifes. In fact, Siegfried noticed the barkeeper was entertained by how these people acted. He allowed a quick smile to escape at the thought. He was a fighter here in the Coliseum. He was paid well, but the prospect of fighting for profit was becoming tedious. The arena was becoming boring, he wanted a new challenge. Fresh and interesting. The crisp, cold northern air drifted in through a half opened window. The barkeeper strolled over from serving another customer. "Another ale please, good sir." said Siegfried. "Of course! One ale!" he yelled to the back of the tavern. Siegfried heard various waitresses scuttling around the kitchen trying to obey the boss's order. "You're a gladiator, right?" he asked Siegfried. "Yes, I fight occasionally." Siegfried replied curtly. "Would you be interested in doing a job for me?" the barkeeper asked. "Oh? What type of 'job' are we speaking of?" asked Siegfried. "I want you to hunt someone down for me. Goes by the name of 'Stalker', though he has many aliases. He's very good in disguises, and tricks people into thinking he's someone else, then cheats them." replied the barkeep. A woman came out with an ale on a tray. "Your ale, sir." she said, putting the ale on the counter in front of Siegfried. "Thank you." he replied, and tossed a coin onto the tray. "Sounds interesting." said Siegfried in a detached tone. "I'm glad you're thinking about it. He was last spotted in Narshe." he replied. Siegfried nodded, and asked, "How much will I be paid?" "If you can catch him I'll give you 10,000 GP. He's part of an elite group. I don't know the name, or the location. All I know, is he attacked some supplies of mine coming through from Nikeah. He was last spotted in Narshe." he said. Siegfried prepared for a journey. * * * Siegfried had gone to bed early that evening, to rest up for the trip. That man seemed more than he appeared to be. Siegfried had concluded that he was NOT a normal bartender. There was more to him.. but at least Siegfried was getting paid a good sum of money to hunt this guy down. * * * Siegfried set out from the Coliseum, heading for Kohlingen. He set out to Kohlingen in the south-west, planning to sail to Narshe. Kohlingen was at least partially back to normal. Siegfried bought a cloak preparing for the harsh cold in the north. He paced quickly across the small town to the port. "Hello sir. Are you, by chance, heading to Narshe?" Siegfried asked. "I'm heading along that way.. it'll cost ya." said the captain. Siegfried passed an amount of coins to the captain's outstretched hand. "This is enough for one-way... we leave tomorrow." he said. "Alright." said Siegfried. * * * The waves lapped against the wooden hull of the boat, making a small splashing noise. Siegfried gazed at the endless waves.. infinite. The time passed, and Siegfried noticed snow coming down, slowly at first, but getting more and more intense as they approached the northern continent with Narshe on it. He remembered his childhood in South Figaro. It had a mild climate, snowing in the winter, and warm in the summer. This was very cold, and he wrapped his newly bought cloak around him as they began the approach to Narshe's port.
