Well, it detects the problem as a bug before segfaulting now. From 
services.log:

IRC Services 5.0a24 starting up
database/version4: BUG: Unable to find nickgroup 0 for linked nick help 
(parent = list, root = list)

Just on my way out, so will try and track it down when I get back.
