Some clients use stupid aliases for CTCP commands, for example:

/version <nick> = /CTCP <nick> VERSION,
/time <nick> = /CTCP <nick> TIME,
/finger <nick> = /CTCP <nick> TIME

This is why nothing works the way you expected.
