[IRCServices] FATAL: kernel too old

Greetings,
  The solution to your problem is to get the source code and compile
IRCServices yourself, and not use the pre-compiled binaries.
  I have a really OLD box (2.2.4 Kernel) that I use for emergency backup
services (not mine to upgrade) that services will work on, but they have to
be compiled from source.

Have finally managed to get a copy of Services installed, using the 5.0.16
RPM. The 5.x source packages refused to compile when they got to the modules
section.

Anyway, I've got this installed, and when I try to run it:

$ /usr/sbin/ircservices
FATAL: kernel too old
Aborted

Kernel version is 2.2.16

2.2.16 isn't all THAT old - what's going on?

Thanks,

Charlie
